National Public Lands Day 2017

Come out to Alafia River State Park and help celebrate National Public Lands Day by helping remove downed trees on the equestrian trails

WHERE: Alafia River State Park, North Equestrian Parking Area (by Three Fingers Lake) north of the main entrance to the park.

WHEN : Saturday, September 23, 2017, 9 a.m. - noon

Our event has changed from helping to flag a new hiking trail to fixing trails impacted by Hurricane Irma, which downed a lot of trees in the park.  The SWAMP club is organizing work crews to open the mountain bike trails; Friends of Alafia is working to get the equestrian trails clear of limbs, vines, and downed trees.  If you have a chain saw and a 4x4 truck, we need you and your equipment.  There are also a lot of vines and smaller branches, so pruning loppers and other hand tools will be useful.  If you don't have a truck and want to work, there should be trucks to transport work crews to problem areas.  Please wear long pants and closed-toed shoes.  Hats, gloves, and insect repellent might make your outing more comfortable.  Also, bring water.  Chances are good that it will be a warm day.
